OAKVILLE CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES 2013

SantaWe know Christmas is coming when the weather is turning brisk while the ground, trees and houses are glistening with the recent snow fall. Each year it reminds us that Christmas is a magical time of year. Oakville Kids has you and your family covered to start the Oakville Christmas season. Our calendar is stuffed like a stocking with events and activities for kids and families. There are many great events across Oakville this season. Some are new and there are some returning favourites too. The Town of Oakville is full of Christmas fun, delight and cheer as always. Enjoy carollers or a wagon ride through the beautiful downtown holiday scenery. Watch the magic of children’s smiles as they experience the many joys of Oakville Christmas events. Santa will be making appearances all throughout December and Mrs. Claus sent us Santa’s Oakville Christmas schedule. The highlights of this year’s events are as follows.

Free photos and videos with Santa are available at the Oakville Place Mall from Nov. 29 to Dec. 24.

Your memorable experience with Santa will be captured digitally by photo and video, which you can download, print or send to friends – all free! You’re also invited to bring your own camera!

Donations will be accepted, with 100 per cent of the proceeds benefiting the organization Sleeping Children Around the World.

Christmas Cheer in Downtown Oakville

Carollers will be singing their hearts out every Saturday and Sunday from Nov. 30 to Dec. 22 in downtown Oakville from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be wagon rides every weekend from Dec. 7 to 22, from noon to 4 p.m. The wagon will be located in the Towne Square.

Bronte Creek Homestead Christmas

A very special treat awaits you and your family this December! Take a step back in time to the year 1900 to visit a Victorian Homestead during the Christmas season. Spruce Lane Farm at Bronte Creek Provincial Park will be trimmed and decorated in all its seasonal splendour. Experience the Christmas season like never before! Access to most Homestead Christmas attractions is included in daily vehicle rate ($16.00 per vehicle) unless otherwise stated. The Bronte Creek Homestead is available every weekend in December until Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’re also open on Monday Dec. 23 and they have special evening hours on Friday Dec. 13 & 20 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Holiday Marketplace at Captain R. Williams Public School

Shop for the holidays, and support local crafters, artisans and small businesses. The marketplace will feature jewelry, Christmas ornaments, wall art, health and beauty products and much more! Prizes will be raffled off and participate in a silent auction. The School Council will also be collecting gently used coats, mitts, gloves and hats, which will be donated to a local women’s shelter.

Captain R. Williams Public School is located at 2145 Grand Oak Trail, Oakville and it runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 3.

St. Andrew’s Christmas House Tour of Oakville

Kerr Street MinistriesThe 2013 St. Andrew’s Christmas House Tour in Oakville, Ontario will present an eclectic mix of historical, waterfront, and architecturally unique homes. Talented local designers decorate each home for the Christmas season. This offers visitors an opportunity to soak up the holiday spirit and be inspired to decorate their own homes for the festive season. The event is Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $40 each and may be ordered online. Last minute purchases can be made the morning of the tour at St. Andrew’s Parish Centre by cash or cheque only. The Tea Room at St. Andrew Church’s Parish Centre will also be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. where you may enjoy refreshments as well as drop into the beautifully decorated St. Andrew Church.

All of the proceeds from the tour go to Kerr Street Ministries and the Oakville Fareshare Food Bank.

Family Christmas Concert

The one-hour concert is on Dec. 14 at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., it’s for the entire family. And features the beautiful voices of the Oakville Children’s Choir, accompanied by the full orchestra playing new and favourite music of the season. Perhaps a young member of your family will get the chance to play the jingles bells or take the orchestra on a “Sleigh Ride!”
